SW Deshpande the Hon. Directory General of AIDCOC elected as President of IPCA and going to chair the 61 st IPC at ahmadabad in this year .He joined FDA Maharashtra as Drugs Inspector and rose to the level of joint commissioner .He is one of the founders of AIDCOC and has contributed substantially in the formation and strengthening as its president and secretary general.

NATIONAL PROJECT ON CONSUMER AWARENESS
All India Drugs Control Officer’s Confederationhas decided to focus on direct action as regards to consumer welfare, especially to improve access to medicines.AIDCOC resolve to focus on direct action by going directly to the consumer with a view to educate them on their rights ,brief them about the factual position vis-à-vis claims made about spurious drugs in India, to educate the m about rational use of medicines and care to be taken to prevent abuse of Medicines. As part of this , on 18th November 2005 ,AIDCOC has inaugurated “National Project on Consumer Awareness” at Visakapatnam,Andhra Pradesh. Under this programme  80% of the Chemists and Druggists  of Visakapatnam were displaying boards about do’s and dont’s  to the Consumers , while purchasing medicines. AIDCOC also proposes to put up hoardings  in metro cities at prominent places to disseminate useful information to the consumers.

AIDCOC initiative to sensitize consumers of medicine
The All India Drugs Control Officers Confederation (AIDCOC) will soon initiate a campaign in major cities to sensitize the public about the do's and don'ts related to drug consumption.

As a prelude to this, AIDCOC has started a pilot awareness campaign in Andhra Pradesh with pamphlets, banners and displays in retail chemist outlets elaborating the evils of self medication, adverse drug reactions, consumer rights, responsibilities of pharmacists etc. Soon AIDCOC will extend the campaign to other states. Further, the organization is also planning to set up hoardings in major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and other metro cities to convey the message to a large population, according to S W Deshpande, president, AIDCOC.
